What Is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a form of hands on manual medicine that aims to restore the body to a state of natural balance. Osteopathic treatment often involves the use of treatment modalities such as soft tissue massage, joint articulation, stretching and strengthening techniques and gentle manipulation of bones and joints.
It is based on the belief that everything within the body is interrelated and if given the opportunity, the body has the capability to heal itself.
Osteopath's consider the body as a whole and assess for relevant limitations, possible compensatory patterns and/or weaknesses commonly related to your area of complaint.
Subsequently, if you were to see an Osteopath they would likely investigate further than just your area of complaint. In the case of a lower back pain for example, this may include assessment and treatment of not only the spine, but the feet, legs, hips, pelvis and even the upper body.
These principles make treating the body an endlessly fascinating process that we are forever learning about throughout our career... A journey that we hope to share with you, we want you to walk out of the treatment room knowing exactly what's happening with your body and what your next step is!
